Printing licensed character stickers

12 Mar 2018

Cartoon Characters

We are often asked if we can printed licensed character stickers for birthday parties and other events. As much as we would like to help you make your event extra special by printing customised stickers, it is legally and ethically wrong and we unfortunately will not be able to assist. The only exception would be if you had purchased the rights to use this from the original license holder. Obtaining permission is usually very time consuming and costly, so this isn’t usually an option.

You may find some of our competitors who are willing to assist and similarly may have no problems ordering a customised cake in the shape of that special character. Unfortunately, regardless of the use, if you are using a trademarked character as part of your work product, you are breaking the law and will subject yourself to the possibility of criminal prosecution and/or a civil suit. The chances of this happening may be remote, but as a publisher ourselves, we also believe that we have an ethical responsibility not to make use of somebody else’s designs/characters.

This may all sound rather sinister, but we have a solution that usually ticks all the boxes. We subscribe to a stock photo site – 123rf.com with millions of images. You are welcome to browse for a similar character and simply send us the reference number with your order. If you need any help, please feel free to email us directly and we can have a quick look for you and come up with some suggestions. We can then happily make your custom stickers for your birthday party, hens party or other event.

You may also want to browse the sticker template section of our website for your order, or for some inspiration for occasion stickers and labels. We look forward to being of service.

A world of sticker and label templates for you to customise

06 Mar 2018

Custom Sticker and Label Templates

We designed this site with you in mind. Custom sticker templates was therefore one of the most important online ordering methods, but creating these templates takes a bit of time.

You currently have the following ways to order. You can upload your own design(s), if you already have one. You can use the design wizard on our website to design a basic sticker or label from scratch. Lastly, if you have all the elements for the label (text and high resolution images), you can email us and we will layout your label(s) at no extra cost – for large orders, we are also able to offer a full bespoke sticker/label design service.

But what if you don’t know where to start? Well, we now have the answer. Simply navigate to the Sticker Templates or Label Templates page and use the on-page filters to search for the category/sub-category that you are looking for. We have quite a few templates already here, but check back regularly as we will be adding new templates weekly.

You can preview a template quickly on the results page and then click on it to customise it with your details. This normally only takes a few seconds (for basic templates) and you are done. You can then specify the quantity required (the price will update automatically on the page). Each template has a default size, but if you are felling creative, you can make it bigger or smaller – you just need to remember to then keep the proportions the same.

Don’t worry if the template doesn’t look 100% perfect. We will send you a proof before sending your order off to production and you are welcome to make changes to the proof.

If you have any ideas for more templates, please contact us as we would love to hear from you.

Wedding Stickers & Labels

Stickers for your Wedding

If you are planning a wedding this year and need some stickers for your wedding, we can help!

There is such a wide variety of creative options for you to choose from, it is difficult to know where to start. So we thought we would jot down a few ideas to get you started.

First off, once you have that all important date, you need to think about letting friends and family know to save the date. Of course there are the usual digital channels, but if you want to stand out and do something different why not consider a Reminder Sticker for your guests to stick on their calendar or place in their diary. Another great option to ensure you are not forgotten is to do Fridge Magnets.

If you are going to be mailing out your invitations, or delivering by hand, then a beautiful Custom Address Label will add a creative flair and save you a lot of time.

For the wedding day itself, you can do Custom Wine and Water Bottle Labels, Domed Stickers for your Centre Pieces and of course stickers for the Wedding Favours for your guests.

Lastly, don’t forget that all important ‘Just Married’ Decal for your car!

But that is not all. Did you know we can also help with the following:

  1. A broad range of custom laser engraved items on either MDF or Bamboo. Contact us for a catalogue and a quote.
  2. A custom Rubber Stamp to make your invitations with.
  3. And once you have your wedding photos, why not consider a Canvas Print stretch over a custom wooden frame?

If you are a designer or wedding planner, please feel free to enquire about our reseller rates.

We hope you have the most amazing wedding and look forward to playing a small part in it by providing the stickers for your wedding.

Labels – any size, shape or quantity

01 Nov 2017

Any Size, Shape or Quantity

We are able to print and cut and size, shape or quantity of vinyl stickers, labels and decals. Together with our focus on quality, very fast turnaround times, free courier delivery for online orders and competitive pricing, we are confident that we can tick all your boxes.

Any Shape – Labels, Stickers or Decals

Unlike traditional printers, we don’t die cut but are able to kiss cut. This means that we don’t have the added complication and expense of setting up a die for each different size/shaped label. When we say we can cut any shape, we mean it and we encourage you to use your imagination – whether it is a particular size/shape (e.g. a heart) or a more complex contour cut of your image. The only thing to keep in mind is that artwork with complex cuts may take a bit longer to process. You may also find it easier to apply stickers and labels that don’t have sharp or fine edges.

Any Size – Label, Sticker or Decal

Similarly, we are not constrained by any size label or sticker. For decals, we can print up to 1.6m wide and are not constrained by the height as we print on a 50m roll. If your stickers or labels are very small, the total cutting time for the job will increase significantly and this may have a small impact on the price for the job.

Any Quantity – Labels, Stickers or Decals

As we have top of the range digital printing equipment, we have the best of both worlds for you. We are equally happy to print small runs or large orders and we never compromise on quality. We use the best vinyl we can find and quality inks on our Roland Machines. We start off at an A4 size and you can fit as many stickers or labels on the page as you want. The next sizes up are an A3 and then an A2. After that, we convert to a rate per square meter which is largely based on the total size of your print order – the more you print, the cheaper it gets.

You may also be interested to know that for large orders, we are happy to send out a sample print of your sticker, label or decal. Please feel free to contact us for more details or a quote.

Removable versus Permanent Vinyl

26 Oct 2017

Many of our clients ask us what the difference is between these two options – removable and permanent vinyl stickers/labels/decals.

Firstly, it is important to mention that in all other aspects the properties of the vinyl are exactly the same. They are waterproof, dishwasher safe and you can write on them with a permanent marker. The difference in removable versus permanent vinyl lies purely in the adhesion qualities, specifically the strength and the permanence.

Removable vinyl can be easily removed and does not leave a sticky residue. It is ideally suited to applications such as the following:

  • Retail Stickers/Labels/Decals
  • Name Tags
  • Bumper Stickers
  • Licence Disc Stickers
  • Bottle Labels
  • Home/Office Admin or Organisational Labels

It is important through to point out that although they may sound similar, removable labels/stickers are not reusable.

Permanent vinyl stickers/labels are difficult to remove (by design) and are suitable for any applications where it is unlikely that you will ever want to remove them. These include some of the following:

  • Waste/Recycling Bins
  • Machinery Warning/Operating Labels
  • Outdoor Gear and Equipment
  • Indoor Signage applications e.g. on wayfinding or information stickers

If you need any further advice or assistance, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us via Live Chat, Phone or the contact form.

Qualify for Free Courier Delivery and a 10% Discount

25 Oct 2017

If you would like to qualify for free courier delivery, you don’t need to jump through a whole series of hoops! Simply place your order online and you will automatically get free courier delivery worth R50.

On top of this, we will also throw in a 10% discount off your order total. This is similarly applied automatically at the checkout without you having to do anything.

Have we lost our mind by offering you such a deep discount and value offering? We don’t think so – well not yet anyway :). Over the last 12 years in the ecommerce space, we have found that it takes a lot less time for us to process orders that have been placed online – i.e. where we receive the complete order directly, after being processed through our websites (RubberStampSA, NameBadgeSA and BusinessCardSA).

This enables us to offer you a much quicker turnaround time and saves us valuable time that we can use to service other enquiries/orders. It seems like a win-win scenario to us, so we decided a long time ago to thank you for working with us in this regard and offered free courier delivery and a 10% discount for all orders placed online.

For those that think there may be a catch – well, there isn’t. We have made it exceptionally easy to place your order online. You can upload your own artwork, use one of our templates from a wide range of categories or start from scratch with our Design Wizard.

We look forward to receiving your order!

Uploading your own artwork

24 Oct 2017

We offer you a number of different ways to place your order, including uploading your own artwork. Our thinking here, is that not everybody has the same design experience and skills. We also felt that it was important to cater for those wanting a self service option(s) to those wanting more of a helping hand.

Uploading your own artwork

For those going the self service route, it is extremely quick and easy to upload your artwork. There are however a few things you should bear in mind:

  • You should allow a bleed of at least 2mm for all images that extend to the trim / cut line.
  • The safe area for text is about 2mm inside of the trim / cut line of the sticker/label/decal.
  • The specifications for the trim / cut line are as follows –
  • All text should ideally be converted to curves (we have a vast library of fonts, but may need the font name/file if is rare or obscure and we are required to edit your design).
  • We print in CMYK. If Pantone® colours have been used in your design we will try our best to match them when we print using our CMYK inks. If you are printing on a vinyl other than white, or a different material altogether, the final printed colour may vary slightly.
  • Images should be no less than 300dpi at the actual size
  • File types – if you have used a vector based design program, it is always best if you submit the original file and don’t rasterise. We accept .pdf / .ai / .eps / .cdr files. You can also submit a .jpg file, but we may not be able to edit the file
  • Lastly, we do not print using white ink yet. This is important if you have artwork that has white in it and wanted to print on clear vinyl.

Other Self Service Options

On our site, you can also use one of our templates to start off with. This is ideal if you are looking for inspiration and are happy to use a template and simply customise the relevant text. We have already created loads of sticker and label templates in many categories and we are sure you will find one that you like.

If you would rather start with a blank canvas, why not use our design wizard. It is very easy to use without any design knowledge, although you may want to read up on the guide to using the Design Wizard here. We have deliberately tried to keep the design wizard simple, which means there is always some tradeoff in terms of functionality. Having said that, all the templates that you see on this site were put together using the very same Design Wizard 🙂

If you need a little bit more design power and don’t have access to a fully fledged design program, why not have a look at Canva – it is feature rich, has an awesome library of images and elements and is magically easy to use.

Guide to using the Design Wizard

20 Oct 2017

Based on our experience processing orders on our other three e-commerce sites, we have tried to offer you a number of different options to make your order journey as seamless as possible. You can upload your own artwork if you have the design skills. You can also start by choosing from a wide range of templates that we have made for you, or you can start with a completely blank canvas using our design wizard.

We have tried to strike a delicate balance here between simplicity and functionality. The Sticker and Label design wizard is ideally aimed at people who don’t have access to, or experience with, a fully functional software design package like Corel Draw or Illustrator / Photoshop.

Design Wizard Step 1 – Setup

The first thing you want to look for is the green arrow on the bottom left of the screen. This shows you your starting point, which involves putting in the dimensions of your Sticker/Label/Decal. If you have started your order on the Home Page, then simply confirm that the dimensions are correct. Similarly, you can then either enter or confirm that the quantity is correct.

Moving across from left to right, you can then check if you want 3D doming as an option, select the background colour for your order and choose the shape of your Sticker, Label or Decal. The options for the latter are a square or rectangle with square / round corners, a sphere (circle or oval) and a custom shaped option (in this case we will place a cut line to cut around the contours on the edge of your design).

Design Wizard Step 2 – Design

Right, now that we have set everything up, you can jump straight into designing your order. If you are including an image or logo, it is a good idea to start with that first by clicking on New Image Layer and selecting your image/logo from your PC or Laptop. Once you have uploaded the image, you will see buttons on the right hand side (under Layer Properties) to Rotate, Fit, Centre, Adjust and Reposition the image. It is also possible to click on the image itself and move it around.

Next, you can add text to your Sticker/Label/Decal. At this stage, we don’t yet have a paragraph option, so you would need to add each line as a separate text box. You can then edit the Font, Size and Colour of the text and move it around by clicking on the text.

To move a text or image layer up/down, simply click on the small arrows to the right of the respective Layer Line in the Layer Box.

Design Wizard Step 3 – Finishing Touches

You are almost done! We have preset the three finishing options to the most common ones but you are welcome to change any of these. You are now finished 🙂 – add the order to your cart and then either proceed straight to the checkout or add another sticker/label/decal order to your basket. If you get stuck at any stage, remember you can chat to us instantly (during working hours) on Live Chat or contact us by phone or using our contact form.
