8 Considerations When Designing Labels for Your Coffee Brand

16 May 2018

You created a winning blend and you’re ready to take your new coffee brand to market – congratulations! That’s grounds for celebration (see what we did there). An essential step in making your new coffee brand commercial, is ensuring the label meets industry standards.

As important as the design and colours are, there is some vital information that is required to appear on your labels in order to keep consumers informed.

1. Product Name

The brand name must appear on your coffee stickers and labels, as well as what the product is.

2. Net Weight

You are required to include the net weight of the coffee beans or grounds in the packaging on your label. Unless you are exporting to a country that uses the imperial system, ensure the weight is stated in grams or kilograms. For a South African consumer, pounds may as well be written in French – who needs such a complicated measuring system!

3. Name and Address of the Coffee Producer

This need not be your name, but the registered name of your brand. This also does not need to appear on the front label – it can be placed on the back of the packaging.

4. Type of Coffee & Blend

Is it Arabica? Mocha? Bourbon? Is it 100% a specific bean or a blend of beans? Let your new customers know!

5. Roast

Dark roasts are more bitter and stronger, whereas medium roasts won’t put as many hairs on your chest! Be sure to include what kind of roast your beans/grounds are so your customer knows what strength they’re dealing with – not everyone likes a strong cuppa!

6. Premium Quality Status

Not so fast! You can only include this on your label if you have received certification from inspection authorities. They test and grade the quality of your beans before roasting.

7. UTZ Certification

This is a sustainability certification that shows your customers you’re a brand that cares about the environment and sustainably grown coffee beans.

8. Optional Extras

If your blend is 100% organic, you can get special certification and include this status on your stickers and labels.  If your coffee is fair trade certified, this is also another great one to include on your labels.

As you can gather, coffee labelling regulations are far more lax than other food and beverage items, making creating your coffee label far less of a headache! Head to our website to order your labels online. We’ve even got easy to use templates to make the process that much easier for you!

How To Choose Effective Colours For Stickers & Labels

08 May 2018

stickers and labels logo colours

The colour of product packaging and branding has a major impact on consumer purchasing behaviour. This is why it’s important to understand your customer, and the psychological impact colour could have on them, before creating your new stickers and labels with us.

Go Bold with Red

By far the boldest choice, red can certainly help your product stand out from the crowd. It’s been shown to encourage impulse buying and customers associate it with feelings of excitement. This works well for food and alcohol stickers and labels.

Clean and Green

Calming and soothing shades of green are strongly associated with eco-friendly and environmentally-focused products. Green is also linked to feelings of tranquility and luck, so can also be suitable for those in the health and well-being industries.

Shades of Blue

People tend to associate feelings of security, trust and reliability with the colour blue. It’s also been found that men resonate better with brands that use this more masculine colour, hence if your target market is male, blue is a solid choice.

Bright and Vibrant Orange

Orange is known to conjure feelings of warmth, vitality and adventure making it suitable for a wide spectrum of brands. Orange is an energetic colour that generally seems to invoke positive emotions making it a great choice for most brands.

(Not So) Mellow Yellow

Yellow is ranked as the most attention-grabbing colour because it always pops against the rest of the design. Despite it being a warm and cheerful colour, it needs to be used sparingly in design as it can cause eye fatigue – especially when it’s very bright.

Simply White

White is extremely popular in label and sticker design due to its simplicity and timeless appeal. It’s associated with serenity, purity and calmness making it a great choice for beauty products, supplements and spas.

Once you’ve picked the perfect colour(s) for your stickers and labels, the final consideration is your font. Ensure it is legible and big enough so that people do not have to strain to read it. Remember if they can’t see it, they probably won’t buy it.

Ready to design and print your awesome new stickers and labels? Great, we’ve made it super easy and convenient for you! Labels – any size, shape or quantity

01 November 2017

Any Size, Shape or Quantity

We are able to print and cut any size, shape or quantity of vinyl stickers, labels and decals. Together with our focus on quality, very fast turnaround times, free courier delivery for online orders and competitive pricing, we are confident that we can tick all your boxes.

Any Shape – Labels, Stickers or Decals

Unlike traditional printers, we don’t die cut but are able to kiss cut. This means that we don’t have the added complication and expense of setting up a die for each different size/shaped label. When we say we can cut any shape, we mean it and we encourage you to use your imagination – whether it is a particular size/shape (e.g. a heart) or a more complex contour cut of your image. The only thing to keep in mind is that artwork with complex cuts may take a bit longer to process. You may also find it easier to apply stickers and labels that don’t have sharp or fine edges.

Any Size – Label, Sticker or Decal

Similarly, we are not constrained by any size label or sticker. For decals, we can print up to 1.6m wide and are not constrained by the height as we print on a 50m roll. If your stickers or labels are very small, the total cutting time for the job will increase significantly and this may have a small impact on the price for the job.

Any Quantity – Labels, Stickers or Decals

As we have top of the range digital printing equipment, we have the best of both worlds for you. We are equally happy to print small runs or large orders and we never compromise on quality. We use the best vinyl we can find and quality inks on our Roland Machines. We start off at an A4 size and you can fit as many stickers or labels on the page as you want. The next sizes up are an A3 and then an A2. After that, we convert to a rate per square meter which is largely based on the total size of your print order – the more you print, the cheaper it gets.

You may also be interested to know that for large orders, we are happy to send out a sample print of your sticker, label or decal. Please feel free to contact us for more details or a quote.

Removable versus Permanent Vinyl

26 October 2017

Many of our clients ask us what the difference is between these two options – removable and permanent vinyl stickers/labels/decals.

Firstly, it is important to mention that in all other aspects the properties of the vinyl are exactly the same. They are waterproof, dishwasher safe and you can write on them with a permanent marker. The difference in removable versus permanent vinyl lies purely in the adhesion qualities, specifically the strength and the permanence.

Removable vinyl can be easily removed and does not leave a sticky residue. It is ideally suited to applications such as the following:

  • Retail Stickers/Labels/Decals
  • Name Tags
  • Bumper Stickers
  • Licence Disc Stickers
  • Bottle Labels
  • Home/Office Admin or Organisational Labels

It is important through to point out that although they may sound similar, removable labels/stickers are not reusable.

Permanent vinyl stickers/labels are difficult to remove (by design) and are suitable for any applications where it is unlikely that you will ever want to remove them. These include some of the following:

  • Waste/Recycling Bins
  • Machinery Warning/Operating Labels
  • Outdoor Gear and Equipment
  • Indoor Signage applications e.g. on wayfinding or information stickers
